Why We're Not Certified Organic – And Why That's Honest

People ask us this all the time. The short answer: because we'd have to lie.

The Organic Honey Problem

To certify honey as USDA Organic, a beekeeper must prove that bees forage exclusively on organic land within a 2-mile radius of every hive. In Silicon Valley – surrounded by roads, gardens, golf courses, and commercial properties – that's impossible to guarantee. Our bees fly where they want. We can't control every flower they visit.

So How Does "Organic Honey" Exist?

Most organic honey sold in the US comes from remote areas of Brazil, Mexico, or other countries where vast tracts of wilderness provide the required organic foraging zone. There's nothing wrong with that – but it's not local, and it's not from your neighborhood.

What We CAN Promise

  • 100% Raw – Never heated above hive temperature
  • Unfiltered – Pollen, propolis, and natural goodness intact
  • No Additives – No corn syrup, no sugar, no blending with imports
  • No Antibiotics – We use integrated pest management, not chemicals
  • Locally Harvested – From 30+ identified Bay Area apiaries you can visit
  • Licensed & Inspected – PFR permitted, MFF registered, fully insured

Transparency Over Labels

We'd rather be honest about what our honey is than pay for a certification that would require us to make claims we can't verify. You know where our honey comes from. You can meet our bees. You can visit our Honey House. That's better than a sticker.
